Wigstock 1996, Pier 54 NYC
Wigstock, on the Hudson River Pier 54 in Chelsea, 1996. Wigstock was an annual outdoor drag festival that began in 1984 in Manhattan's East Village that took place on Labor Day, continuing, with a few gaps, until 2005. In 1912, the R.M.S. Carpathia brought survivors of the Titanic to Pier 54. It had become a venue for outdoor concerts in recent years but started to collapse in 2011 and was closed, then demolished. Today it is the site of an over-water 2.4 acre park called Little Island, developed by Barry Diller, with an amphitheater and dramatic views. Video by Todd Jennings (1950-2004)

Classic 1960 Home Movies (Silent 8MM film)

My parents shot these silent 8MM home movies around 1960. I'm the cute little blonde boy you see in the thumbnail picture, and also at the start of the film on the playground in second grade, walking toward the camera crying, then kissing a boy at 1:22, and being grabbed by two girls (I didn't like it :) at 1:39. Third grade starts at 2:15, in the classroom with my fellow students walking by th...

Rare amateur video clip of John F. Kennedy Jr

Home video of John F. Kennedy, Jr. on the street in New York City circa 1996. Notice how polite he was to pause so he didn't get in the way of a tourist's photograph. I balled like a baby all day, glued to the tv. My 7 and 4 year olds were sad too. I was 12 or 13 when she married Prince Charles and stayed up to watch their wedding… she was the fairy Princess to the world. My heart broke for the boys having to walk behind her coffin. May she always rest in peace. 💔

There is also some RUclips video made by a woman who just used the footage without asking permission. I still can't believe she is dead. No I didn't see much of her as I was young, into school, friends and what not of our childhood days but adults at that time must be shocked by the news as they kept track of what she was upto and what she did. These kind of situations like assassination of Rajiv Gandhi was very real for our neighborhood. People were crying including my own mother, like big tears. I asked her, are we supposed to cry, he isn't related to us?! They were all crying, entire neighborhood went silent during day time itself...that was when I saw how much people were attached to national or international heros. I still remember that vividly - news of assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and all the tears around me. With Diana and even Mother Teresa in 1997 I couldn't get same reaction from people around. Personally I was far moved by Sept 11 attacks with planes entering towering buildings like nothing of that sort had happened before and right before our TV screens as we were studying and TV was on. It was a bonding moment for us in family since we watched it the very moment it happened..as we were told on the news. Second plane was yet to hit the building. Oh and sympathies we had for America at that time. But most interesting was how high tech it was. How uniquely high tech advanced tech it was. Moved on from throwing stones at others ( or self?) houses too fast to throwing airplanes. Oh, memories of growing up so nicely. I still don't believe she is dead. Maybe someone let her escape. Maybe she found her escape.

    Still not really given us a good reason why the ambulance took an hour to reach the hospital that was literally minutes away 😏😡

    • @alan-light
      @alan-light 8 дней назад

      In America or Britain an ambulance will speed to a hospital, whereas in France it is the custom to rive slowly, in order to give more careful treatment en route. The doctor onboard the ambulance, Jean-Marc Martino, treated Diana at the scene for almost 40 minutes due to the severity of her injuries, before proceeding to a hospital. The ambulance driver, Michel Massebeuf, contradicted claims that the journey to hospital through central Paris was prolonged as part of a conspiracy to kill Diana. "The doctor instructed me to drive slowly because of the condition of the princess," he said. "We had an escort of several police motorcyclists which enabled us to travel under optimal conditions at 40 or 50km per hour (25-31mph), smoothly, and without having to stop for traffic.” The ambulance had to come to a complete stop a short distance from the hospital when Diana's blood pressure dropped, prompting fears her heart would stop. The ambulance stopped for about five minutes in order for Diana to be given treatment that required a complete absence of movement. Then it continued the journey without having to stop again. The medical team at Pitie-Salpetriere hospital that treated Diana said everything possible had been done to save her life. Staff carried out cardiac massage constantly as surgeons attempted to clamp a ruptured blood vessel next to her heart. But after repeated electric shocks also failed to revive the princess, medical staff accepted that the battle to save her life had been lost. Daniel Eyraud, an anaesthetist, said in a statement read to the jury: "We decided by common consent to stop heart massage as it was completely impossible to restore cardiac activity after such a long period of arrest. From that point, the princess was pronounced dead." He said he could not recall the exact time when the decision was taken but said staff had treated her for "a few hours". "I personally believe we did everything possible to save the princess with the appropriate means," Eyraud said.

    The last of the actual women who can be called a Princess. She was so popular and so beloved by everyone but the royal family. She was single-handedly responsible for removing the stigma of HIV/AIDS, and she was such a sensitive and tortured soul. She would have been in her 60s by now. She was, and still remains, the people's princess.

I was 15 and I had such a crush in sporty spice. (Im 43 now). And yes I'm embarrassed I was a spice girls fan. My mom used to buy all those silly magazines like the enquirer and star, all the gossip books I recon. I can remember her crying. My father was indifferent. That's one of those moments in time that are burned in my head. My opinion is the queen didn't like her and had the goon squad handle it. But my opinion don't mean shit. Those boys lost there mom. That's all that matters. She was a beloved woman. Gone way too soon.
